Discrepant Event

What is a Discrepant Event?

A discrepant event is a surprising and paradoxical outcome that is not what an observer would normally expect.

Why Should You Use Discrepant Events?

The largest reason is that students will become hooked on science. To them, this will appear to be “magic” and their ears will be wide open to understand just how that worked. Then they will be ready to “amaze” their friends both with the “trick” and then with their “smarts.”

But there’s also the fact that it’s a well-researched and well-documented teaching strategy! It helps teachers assess students’ knowledge and target any misconceptions.

Further, it helps students develop more of a scientific mindset. When a scientist makes an observation, something may spark their curiosity which will then lead to an investigation or research.

Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategies

Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategies are designed to promote cooperation and Communication among students. It boosts students confidence and makes Classroom interactive. It generates and maintains students interest in the subject with the interactive learning because Students work in teams and are not just passive listeners.

These are a few Kagan Cooperative Learning Strategies:

👉Who am I?

In this one student from the group asks a number of questions to the other members of the team and they have to guess the answer.

👉Act it out

One member of the team is given a term and he/she has to do actions to describe the word and other members have to guess what is it they mean.

Mon,28Feb,2022

Science day was celebrated on 28th February 2022 in GVM'S Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education. The theme for the celebrations in college was "Integrated Approach in S&T for Sustainable Future".

The preparation for this day had started much in advance with planning, work distribution ,demonstration and systematic presentation.

The day 28th feb began with demonstrations for students followed by presentation. Also students presented correlation of science with other disciplines through play , poems and what not.

Science Day was celebrated on the 28th of February, 2023 in G.V.M.’s Dr. Dada Vaidya College of Education. The theme for the celebrations in college was From "Global Science for Global Wellbeing".

The preparation for Science day had started well in advance. Responsibilities were allotted to the Science students. Students of other methods too were given a chance to participate.

The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Rajesh Pednekar He was accompanied by the chairman of GVM’s working committee Mr.         and a Member of GVM’s working committee Mr.         .

The Function started with the welcoming of the chief guest and declaring open the Science Day.

There was display of various Science exhibits. The library was converted into a Darkroom for a day. Mesmerizing Videos of planets were shown there by using Hologram Models.

I was there in Managing committee in which i had to make sure everything is ready for Demos . Ground  Floor had students with their Green exhibits.

The program concluded with a lovely tribute to Ma’am, Dr. Anna Neena George.  It was truly a fruitful experience.

Teaching Aids Exhibition

Teaching Aids
Teaching aids are tools which facilitate the process of teaching and learning. Teachers use teaching aids to make students understand the concepts and improve their learning. Examples of teaching aid are blackboards, Worksheets, charts, models, pictures, real objects, digital boards, etc. Teaching aids help to support the lesson and assist the students in learning with the help of examples.

Science Teaching Aids Exhibition
On 19th November 2021, Science Teaching Aids Exhibition held in our college. All First Year science students exhibited their Teaching aids in exhibition gallery.

ABOUT MY TEACHING AID
Teaching aids plays a very important role in teaching-learning process. Through teaching aids teacher clarify the subject more easily. Teaching aids motivates student to learn better. It also saves time. And make the classroom live and active.
Above charts were prepared during my peer teaching, for VI std on a topic called “ changes around us.
  • My 1st worksheet was on common changes taking place in our nature.
  • For my 2nd worksheet I had brought all those materials and asked my peers to observe them and they were supposed to tick mark the changes they are seeing in the worksheet.
  • My 3rd worksheet was to make students classify reversible and irreversible changes.
  • And my 4th worksheet was for evaluation.
  • I had prepared concept map chart to summarise my topic well.

💥Sci-Fun 2023💥

Sci-Fun Is an activity-based program that was started in 2011 with the aim of revolutionizing Science learning and teaching in the schools across the state of Goa. This program is inspired by the ideas of Shri. Arvind Gupta and is planned and organized by
Dr. Anna Neena George.

Myself, Prarthana Naik and Veena kaskar were appointed as Material incharges of Our science Group-A.
We helped in arranging Chemicals and other required materials for Our Team members.

We visited Two High school's on Each Saturday
1.Dada vaidya High School,kurti
2.Shri Saraswati High-School, kavle

Name of the Experiment performed by me During SCI-Fun is "Magic Fire🔥"
In Dada Vaidya High-School

MAGIC FIRE🔥🧯

Materials: Hydrogen Peroxide, Potassium iodide, baking soda, Vinegar, broom sticks, two conical flasks, matchbox.

Principle: In the first conical flask , carbon dioxide gas was released by reaction between baking soda and vinegar. carbon dioxide gas acts as a fire extinguisher. in the second conical flask oxygen gas was released. potassium iodide acts as a catalyst in the second reaction. the oxygen gas released in second conical flask ignites the stick.

Micro teaching
Micro-teaching is a training setting for the student teacher where complexities of the normal classroom teaching the reduced. The complex teaching skill is analyzed into simpler component teaching skills which are practiced one at a time. To practice a particular skill, 5-10 minutes micro lesson using a single concept is planned. The lesson is then taught to a micro class comprising of 5 - 10 pupils. In this way complexities of the normal class teaching are simplified in microteaching by :
  • Practice one component skill at a time.
  • Limiting the content to a single concept
  • Reducing the class size to 5-10 pupils.
  • Reducing the duration of the lesson to 5 - 10 minutes.
Steps in Microteaching
Following are the steps generally followed when microteaching technique is employed for teacher training.

 1. Plan Session
2.Teach Session
3. Feedback Session
4. Replan Session
5. Reteach Session
6. Refeedback Session
